Overview

NCX 226 is a novel nitric oxide (NO)-donating molecular entity developed by NicOx for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It is designed as a dual-action compound that releases both bosentan, an endothelin receptor antagonist, and nitric oxide. The drug was shown in preclinical models to have improved efficacy over bosentan alone in preventing airway stiffness and reducing inflammation and oxidative stress associated with pulmonary fibrosis—a condition often linked to PAH. Despite promising preclinical results, development of NCX 226 has been discontinued[1][5][6].
