NCX 6560

NCX 6560 is an orally active, nitric oxide (NO)-donating derivative of atorvastatin developed for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, particularly acute coronary syndromes and atherosclerosis. It combines the cholesterol-lowering effects of statins with additional NO-mediated benefits, including enhanced anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, vasodilatory, and endothelial-protective properties. Preclinical and early clinical studies have shown that NCX 6560 lowers serum cholesterol more effectively than atorvastatin alone and provides superior anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic activity. The drug was designed to address both elevated cholesterol levels and deficient nitric oxide signaling implicated in atherosclerotic plaque development. Notably, it may also reduce the risk of statin-induced myopathy due to its NO-donating component[1][2][6][7][8].
