NCX 950 is an investigational small molecule drug developed as a nitric oxide-releasing derivative of salbutamol, designed to act as a beta2-adrenoceptor agonist. It was investigated for the treatment of pulmonary diseases, specifically asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The drug elicits potent relaxant and anti-inflammatory activities compared with salbutamol, primarily through activation of the beta-2 adrenergic receptor rather than via the cGMP pathway. The addition of nitric oxide-donating properties was intended to enhance both bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory effects. Despite promising preclinical results, development was discontinued[1][2][7].
