NCX250 is a dual-action small molecule designed as a **sulfonamide carbonic anhydrase inhibitor** that also incorporates a nitric oxide (NO)-donating nitrate ester moiety. It combines the intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering efficacy of classic carbonic anhydrase inhibitors such as dorzolamide with the added benefit of persistent NO release, leading to increased ocular hemodynamics and reduced inflammation and apoptosis in glaucoma models.
