Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ND-13 is a 20-amino acid cell-penetrating peptide derived from the highly conserved sequence of the DJ-1 (PARK7) protein, fused to a 7-amino acid TAT cell-penetrating peptide sequence (YGRKKRR). Developed by researchers at Tel Aviv University and licensed to UGH Pharma, ND-13 acts as a neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and cytoprotective agent. It exerts its effects primarily by activating the Nrf2 (nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2) antioxidant pathway, which upregulates antioxidant genes, reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, and prevents mitochondrial dysfunction. ND-13 has been investigated in preclinical models for various conditions, including Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, stroke (focal ischemic injury), acute myocardial infarction (ischemia-reperfusion injury), and diabetic nephropathy.
