Overview

ND-BT3814 is a preclinical-stage monoclonal antibody drug candidate being developed by BioArctic for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The antibody is designed to target TDP-43, a protein that forms pathological aggregates in the central nervous system of patients with ALS and other neurodegenerative disorders. A key feature of ND-BT3814 is the integration of BioArctic's proprietary BrainTransporter technology, which utilizes receptor-mediated transcytosis via the transferrin receptor (TfR) to actively transport the antibody across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). This mechanism is intended to achieve significantly higher brain concentrations—potentially up to 70-fold greater than conventional antibodies—thereby improving therapeutic efficacy while allowing for lower systemic doses and an improved safety profile.
