NDBR 101 is a live-attenuated vaccine derived from the Live Vaccine Strain (LVS) of *Francisella tularensis*, the causative agent of tularemia. Developed and maintained by the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), NDBR 101 refers to specific master seed lots used to produce the vaccine for high-risk personnel, such as laboratory workers and military specialists. The vaccine is typically administered via a multiple-puncture technique (scarification) using a bifurcated needle. It works by establishing a self-limiting infection that stimulates both humoral and cellular immune responses, providing protection against both naturally occurring tularemia and potential aerosolized exposure. Despite its long history of use under Investigational New Drug (IND) protocols, it remains an unlicensed investigational product due to requirements for further characterization and modernization of the manufacturing process.
