Overview

The Nanofluidic Drug-Eluting Seed (NDES) is an implantable drug delivery platform developed by Continuity Biosciences for the localized and sustained release of therapeutic agents directly into solid tumors, including breast cancer. The device features a silicon nanofluidic membrane that regulates drug diffusion through physical and electrostatic nanoconfinement, enabling a constant, zero-order release rate without the need for pumps or external power sources. Inserted intratumorally via a minimally invasive trocar method—similar to the placement of brachytherapy seeds—the NDES is designed to maximize drug exposure within the tumor microenvironment while minimizing systemic circulation and associated toxicities. It is currently in preclinical development as a versatile platform capable of delivering various therapeutic payloads, such as chemotherapeutics and immunotherapeutics, particularly for the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer.
