NDM29 (neuroblastoma-differentiation-marker 29) is a non-coding RNA (ncRNA) transcribed by RNA polymerase III that acts as a tumor suppressor in neuroblastoma. Research, primarily conducted at the University of Genoa, has shown that the expression of NDM29 promotes the differentiation of neuroblastoma cells from a highly malignant, proliferative state into a more mature, neuron-like phenotype. This differentiation is associated with a significant reduction in tumor aggressiveness and malignancy. NDM29 is involved in modulating cellular heterogeneity and transdifferentiation processes within the tumor, and it has been identified as a potential regulator of angiogenic pathways, including VEGF signaling. It is being investigated as a therapeutic candidate for differentiation therapy in neuroblastoma.
