NE-ALZ-138 is an investigational, orally bioavailable small molecule developed by NeuroEM Therapeutics for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It is designed as a dual-target anti-oligomeric agent that inhibits the aggregation of both amyloid-beta (Aβ) and tau proteins. By preventing the formation of toxic oligomers and potentially promoting the disassembly of existing aggregates, NE-ALZ-138 aims to mitigate synaptic dysfunction and neurodegeneration. This approach targets the smaller, more proteotoxic species of these proteins rather than the larger fibrillar plaques, offering a distinct therapeutic strategy compared to many current monoclonal antibody treatments. The drug is intended to be used either as a monotherapy or in conjunction with the company's transcranial electromagnetic treatment (TEMT) device.
