Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NE gB2 + gD2 is an investigational intranasal subunit vaccine for herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) that combines recombinant HSV-2 surface glycoproteins gD2 and gB2 formulated in a nanoemulsion adjuvant (NE01) to enhance mucosal and systemic immunity.[3] In preclinical guinea pig models of genital herpes, intranasal administration of the bivalent NE01-gD2/gB2 vaccine induced higher neutralizing antibody titers than a monovalent gD2 nanoemulsion vaccine, significantly reduced acute and recurrent genital disease, decreased viral shedding, and largely prevented dorsal root ganglion infection, supporting its potential for both prophylactic and therapeutic use against genital HSV-2 infection.[3]
