Overview
Nedocromil + budesonide is a combination therapy investigated by the University of New Mexico for the management of asthma and the study of immune dysregulation. This combination consists of nedocromil, a mast cell stabilizer, and budesonide, a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid. Nedocromil works by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators (such as histamine and leukotrienes) from mast cells and may also affect eosinophils and neutrophils. Budesonide reduces airway inflammation by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, thereby modulating the expression of inflammatory genes. This specific combination was utilized in mechanistic clinical trials to evaluate how anti-inflammatory therapy influences the immune response to neoantigens, such as keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) and Hepatitis B, in both asthmatic and healthy individuals.
