Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Neisseria gonorrhoeae strain FA7537 is a specific isolate of the Gram-negative bacterium *Neisseria gonorrhoeae* utilized as a challenge agent in experimental human infection models. Developed and studied by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), this strain is used to investigate the molecular mechanisms of gonococcal pathogenesis, specifically the role of various virulence factors in establishing urethral infection in men. In clinical trial settings, it is administered intraurethrally to healthy volunteers to compare the infectivity and competitive fitness of wild-type strains against isogenic mutants, providing insights into bacterial survival and host immune evasion strategies.
