Overview
This is a component of quadrivalent or pentavalent meningococcal conjugate vaccines used for active immunization to prevent invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroup A. The vaccine contains the capsular oligosaccharide from Neisseria meningitidis group A covalently linked to the non-toxic mutant diphtheria toxin protein carrier CRM197. This conjugation enhances immunogenicity by inducing T-cell dependent immune responses. It is typically combined with similar antigens from other serogroups (C, W-135, Y) in commercial vaccines such as Menveo and Penmenvy. These vaccines are indicated for prevention of invasive meningococcal disease in infants, children, adolescents, and adults depending on the product[3][5][6].
