The Neisseria meningitidis group A oligosaccharide-CRM197 conjugate vaccine is a monovalent vaccine designed to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by serogroup A. It consists of purified capsular oligosaccharides from *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup A that are chemically conjugated to CRM197, a non-toxic, recombinant mutant of the diphtheria toxin. This conjugation process is essential for converting the polysaccharide from a T-cell independent antigen into a T-cell dependent antigen, which significantly enhances immunogenicity, induces high-affinity bactericidal antibodies, and establishes immunological memory, particularly in infants and young children. Developed by GSK (following the acquisition of Novartis Vaccines), this specific conjugate is a critical component of the quadrivalent vaccine Menveo, where it is typically supplied as a lyophilized powder to be reconstituted with a liquid component containing other serogroups. It has also been evaluated as a standalone candidate in clinical trials aimed at addressing the high burden of serogroup A meningitis in the African meningitis belt.
