Overview

Neisseria meningitidis serogroup b fhbp fusion protein antigen is a recombinant fusion protein, specifically Factor H binding protein (fHbp), derived from *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup B. It is produced in *Escherichia coli* cells using recombinant DNA technology and is often adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide to enhance the immune response. fHbp is a surface-exposed lipoprotein that binds human factor H, a key regulator of the alternative complement pathway, which helps the bacteria evade the host immune system. As a vaccine antigen, it stimulates the body's immune system to produce antibodies that can block factor H binding and activate complement-mediated killing of *N. meningitidis* serogroup B, thereby preventing invasive meningococcal disease. This antigen is a key component of licensed meningococcal serogroup B vaccines such as Bexsero and Trumenba.
