nelfinavir + omeprazole

Nelfinavir + omeprazole is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents. Nelfinavir is an HIV-1 protease inhibitor used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It works by binding to the active site of HIV-1 protease, inhibiting its activity and preventing the cleavage of viral polyproteins into functional proteins required for infectious viral particles[8][3]. Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that decreases gastric acid secretion by irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells[6]. This combination is not recommended due to a significant drug-drug interaction; coadministration leads to reduced systemic exposure and efficacy of nelfinavir, potentially resulting in loss of virologic control and emergence of resistance[2][5][1].
