Overview

Nelociguat (BAY60-4552) is a small molecule drug that acts as a soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) stimulator. It is an active metabolite of riociguat and was developed by Bayer for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and heart failure. Nelociguat stimulates sGC independently of nitric oxide, leading to increased cyclic GMP levels and vasorelaxation. Preclinical studies have shown potent vasodilatory effects and end-organ protective properties. Clinical trials have evaluated its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and hemodynamic effects in patients with biventricular heart failure and secondary pulmonary hypertension.
