Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Neltenexine is a small molecule mucolytic agent and elastase inhibitor. It is chemically an amide derivative of ambroxol and thiophenecarboxylic acid. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of elastase enzymes, which may help prevent pulmonary emphysema by reducing tissue damage in the lungs. It has been investigated primarily for respiratory diseases involving mucus hypersecretion and inflammation such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pulmonary emphysema. The drug was developed to improve mucus clearance and reduce lung tissue degradation through its anti-elastase activity.
