NEMO-103 is an iron-based, T1-positive contrast agent developed by Inventera for use in direct magnetic resonance (MR) arthrography of the shoulder. The agent consists of a biocompatible dextran core with a supramolecular amorphous iron oxide shell, resulting in a molecular weight of approximately 32 kDa. It is designed to provide superior diagnostic imaging quality for shoulder joint pathologies, including rotator cuff tears and labral tears, by offering a longer joint cavity residence time (greater than 2 hours) compared to conventional gadolinium-based agents. NEMO-103 is intended as a safer alternative to 'off-label' intra-articular gadolinium, which has raised concerns regarding potential joint tissue toxicity.
