Overview

Nemonoxacin is a novel, non-fluorinated quinolone antibiotic with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. It acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby blocking DNA synthesis, gene duplication, and cell division. Nemonoxacin is particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria—including multidrug-resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae—as well as some Gram-negative and atypical pathogens. It has demonstrated greater efficacy than many fluoroquinolones in preclinical models of systemic, pulmonary, or urinary tract infections. Nemonoxacin was developed by TaiGen Biotechnology for the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI). The drug has been approved in China since 2016 under the brand name Taigexyn and is marketed in several other regions including Taiwan, Russia, Turkey, mainland China, Latin America, and the Commonwealth Independent States[1][3][5][7].
