Overview

Neo-Islets are investigational three-dimensional multicellular organoids developed by SymbioCellTech for diabetes. They are produced by co-culturing culture-expanded pancreatic islet cells with healthy mesenchymal stromal cells in an approximately 1:1 ratio. The islet-cell component is intended to restore glucose-responsive insulin production, while the mesenchymal stromal-cell component is intended to provide trophic, pro-angiogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, and autoimmune and allogeneic immune-modulatory support that may improve islet survival and engraftment without systemic anti-rejection therapy. SymbioCellTech lists human Neo-Islets as SCT-h001 for type 1 and type 2 diabetes and canine Neo-Islets as SCT-c001 for canine diabetes.
