Overview

NEO101 is an investigational synthetic antimicrobial peptide (AMP) that was developed by Neosil Inc. for topical dermatological use. The drug was designed to provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, specifically targeting the reduction of wound bioburden following surgical procedures such as curettage and electrodessication for superficial basal cell carcinoma (BCC). It was also evaluated for its ability to eradicate *Staphylococcus aureus* nasal carriage in adults. NEO101 reached Phase 2 clinical development; however, following the acquisition of Neosil by Peplin in 2008, and Peplin's subsequent acquisition by LEO Pharma in 2009, the program was discontinued. The specific amino acid sequence and molecular target of NEO101 remain proprietary and were not disclosed in public clinical trial registries.
