Overview

Neoagarotetraose (NAT) is a marine-derived oligosaccharide, specifically a tetrasaccharide produced by the enzymatic hydrolysis of agarose using β-agarase. It is primarily investigated for its prebiotic properties and its ability to modulate the gut-microbiota-metabolism axis. Preclinical research in ApoE−/− mice has demonstrated that NAT can significantly alleviate atherosclerosis by regulating cholesterol and bile acid metabolism through the modulation of gut microbiota composition. Additionally, NAT has shown potential in reducing high-fat diet-induced obesity via white adipocyte browning, extending lifespan in model organisms like *Caenorhabditis elegans* through AMPK-mediated signaling and autophagy activation, and protecting against exercise-induced fatigue and brain aging.
