Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NeoBenz Micro is a topical dermatological product containing benzoyl peroxide, specifically formulated with a patented MICROSPONGE delivery system. Developed by SkinMedica for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris, the MICROSPONGE technology (a methyl methacrylate/glycol dimethacrylate crosspolymer) entraps the active ingredient in porous microspheres. This allows for a controlled, gradual release of benzoyl peroxide throughout the day, which helps to minimize the skin irritation commonly associated with the drug. Benzoyl peroxide acts as an antimicrobial agent against *Cutibacterium acnes* (formerly *P. acnes*), possesses keratolytic properties to clear follicles, and exhibits anti-inflammatory effects. Although previously a widely prescribed product, the NeoBenz Micro brand has been discontinued in the United States.
