Overview

NeoCeram is a brand name associated with several distinct medical and industrial products, most notably a synthetic bone graft substitute and a high-performance ceramic material used in orthopedic implants. In the context of regenerative medicine, NeoCeram (developed by Neo-Medical) is a synthetic, osteoconductive bone substitute composed of biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP), typically a mixture of 60% hydroxyapatite and 40% beta-tricalcium phosphate. It serves as a scaffold for new bone growth in orthopedic, trauma, and dental surgeries, gradually resorbing as it is replaced by natural host bone. In the field of joint reconstruction, NeoCeram (developed by Kyocera) refers to a zirconia-toughened alumina (ZTA) ceramic used for femoral heads in hip replacements, valued for its high fracture toughness and wear resistance. Additionally, the name is used for topical barrier repair creams (developed by Neo-Pharma) containing a physiological ratio of ceramides, cholesterol, and free fatty acids, indicated for the management of atopic dermatitis and eczema.
