Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NeoForm is a brand name for metformin hydrochloride, a biguanide antihyperglycemic agent primarily used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It functions through several distinct mechanisms: it reduces hepatic glucose production by inhibiting gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis, decreases the intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity by increasing glucose uptake and utilization in tissues. Manufactured by GXI and distributed by Metro Drug in the Philippines, NeoForm is typically available as a 500mg tablet. It is used as a first-line therapy, particularly in overweight patients, and can be administered as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents when diet and exercise alone are insufficient for glycemic control.
