NeoMTA is a bioactive bioceramic root and pulp treatment material primarily used in endodontic procedures such as vital pulp therapy (including pulpotomy and pulp capping), apexification, root-end filling, perforation repair, and other restorative dental applications. It is formulated as a powder containing pure tricalcium silicate and dicalcium silicate with tantalum oxide for radiopacity. Upon application, it releases calcium and hydroxide ions that promote the formation of hydroxyapatite on its surface to seal the treated area and support healing. The material is resin-free for maximum bioactivity, dimensionally stable (does not shrink), color-stable (non-staining due to absence of bismuth oxide), highly radiopaque compared to earlier MTAs, immediately wash-out resistant when placed, non-cytotoxic/biocompatible, antimicrobial in vitro due to high initial pH (alkaline/basic), and designed for both primary and permanent teeth[1][2][4]. It has been shown to be more effective than calcium hydroxide for primary tooth vital pulp therapy[4].
