neomycin B

**Neomycin B** (also known as **framycetin**) is the principal active component of neomycin, a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from the metabolic products of *Streptomyces fradiae*[1][2]. Neomycin B exerts its antibacterial effect by **binding to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes**, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and causing bacterial cell death[1][3][5]. It is most commonly used in topical and oral preparations to treat a variety of Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacterial infections, and can also be used to reduce intestinal bacteria in hepatic encephalopathy[1][3][4]. Due to its nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, neomycin B is not used parenterally[2].
