Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Neomycin sulfate + bacitracin zinc + hydrocortisone acetate + polymyxin b sulfate is a fixed-dose **ophthalmic ointment** combining three topical antibiotics with a corticosteroid for steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions in which bacterial infection is present or there is a risk of bacterial infection. Neomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding the 30S ribosomal subunit, polymyxin B disrupts the outer membrane of susceptible Gram-negative bacteria, bacitracin interferes with bacterial cell-wall synthesis, and hydrocortisone acetate provides local anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid activity. The product has been marketed under brands including **Neo-Polycin HC** and historically **Cortisporin Ophthalmic Ointment**, and is now available as a multisource generic ophthalmic steroid-anti-infective combination used for conditions involving the conjunctiva, cornea, anterior segment inflammation, chronic anterior uveitis, infective conjunctivitis, and corneal injury associated with burns or foreign bodies.
