Overview

**Neonatal NET-inhibitory factor** is an investigational peptide biologic that inhibits neutrophil extracellular trap formation by blocking key terminal steps in NETosis. It is a naturally occurring placental cleavage fragment of alpha-1-antitrypsin generated in utero and has been shown to inhibit peptidyl arginine deiminase 4 activity, histone citrullination, and neutrophil nuclear decondensation. The program originated from research at the University of Utah and is exclusively licensed to Peel Therapeutics. nNIF remains preclinical, with published efficacy in mouse models of systemic inflammation, polymicrobial sepsis, neonatal infectious peritonitis, and ischemic stroke, and it has been discussed as a potential therapy for inflammatory disorders such as sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and COVID-19-associated immunothrombosis.
