Overview

Neoquine is a topical depigmenting cream containing 2% hydroquinone, utilized by Lutronic Corporation in clinical research. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of melasma and other hyperpigmentation disorders. The active ingredient, hydroquinone, acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor, blocking the enzymatic oxidation of tyrosine to 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) and the subsequent synthesis of melanin within melanocytes. By reducing melanin production and promoting the degradation of melanosomes, Neoquine effectively lightens affected skin areas. In clinical settings, specifically trial NCT03040089, it has been used as a standard-of-care comparator to evaluate the efficacy of picosecond Nd:YAG laser therapy (such as the PICO+4 system) in patients with moderate to severe melasma.
