Overview

This is a combination of three drugs—neostigmine, atropine, and sugammadex—used in anesthesia practice for the reversal of neuromuscular blockade. - **Neostigmine** is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that increases acetylcholine levels at the neuromuscular junction, thereby reversing non-depolarizing neuromuscular blockade. - **Atropine** is a muscarinic antagonist administered alongside neostigmine to counteract its cholinergic side effects (such as bradycardia and increased secretions). - **Sugammadex** is a selective relaxant binding agent that encapsulates steroidal neuromuscular blocking agents (notably rocuronium and vecuronium), rapidly reversing their effects by reducing free drug concentration. The combination may be used to optimize recovery from moderate or deep neuromuscular blockade while minimizing the required dose of sugammadex and reducing associated costs or hypersensitivity risks[1]. Clinical studies have compared this combination with either agent alone for efficacy in reversal time, cognitive function outcomes, and postoperative nausea/vomiting[1][2][5][6].
