Neostigmine + vecuronium is a combination of two drugs used in anesthesia practice. Vecuronium is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent (muscle relaxant) that acts by competitively inhibiting acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, resulting in skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation[5][6]. Neostigmine is a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor that increases acetylcholine levels at the neuromuscular junction by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, thereby reversing the effects of non-depolarizing muscle relaxants like vecuronium[4][7]. This combination is commonly used to induce and then reverse skeletal muscle paralysis during surgical procedures under general anesthesia. Neostigmine is typically administered near the end of surgery to antagonize residual neuromuscular blockade caused by vecuronium, facilitating recovery of normal muscle function[1][2].
