Neovasculgen is a gene therapy drug consisting of a supercoiled plasmid DNA encoding the human vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) isoform 165. It is designed to promote angiogenesis—the formation of new blood vessels—by stimulating endogenous VEGF-A production in target tissues. The primary indication for Neovasculgen is the treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), particularly chronic lower limb ischemia due to atherosclerosis. The drug is administered via intramuscular injection and has demonstrated efficacy in improving perfusion and walking distance in patients with critical limb ischemia. Developed originally by Artgen Biotech PJSC and registered in Russia since 2011, Neovasculgen represents an innovative approach within regenerative medicine and cardiovascular therapeutics[2][3][5].
