Overview

Nepadutant is a glycosylated bicyclic cyclohexapeptide drug that acts as a highly selective antagonist of the neurokinin 2 (NK2) receptor, also known as the tachykinin NK2 receptor. It was developed by Menarini Group and investigated primarily for the treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders, including infantile colic and other infantile functional gastrointestinal disorders, as well as asthma. Nepadutant competitively binds with high affinity to human NK2 receptors, displacing radiolabeled ligands in vitro. Despite promising pharmacological properties and clinical trials in infants with colic, it was never marketed[1][4][6].
