Nepenthes miranda stem extract is a natural product derived from the stems of the carnivorous plant *Nepenthes miranda*. Extracted typically with 100% ethanol, it contains a complex mixture of bioactive compounds including sitosterol, hexadecanoic acid, oleic acid, plumbagin, and others identified via gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The extract exhibits significant cytotoxic activity against various cancer cell lines (including Ca9-22 gingival carcinoma, CAL27 oral adenosquamous carcinoma, PC-9 pulmonary adenocarcinoma, B16F10 melanoma, 4T1 mammary carcinoma cells and H838 human lung adenocarcinoma), primarily by inducing G2 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis[1][2][6][8]. It also demonstrates inhibitory effects on key enzymes related to skin aging such as elastase and hyaluronidase[2][6]. Mechanistically, some constituents show strong binding affinity for single-stranded DNA-binding protein (KpSSB) and replication protein A 32 kDa subunit (RPA32), suggesting potential antipathogen and anticancer activities through inhibition of DNA repair or replication processes[1][2][8]. The pharmacological profile positions this plant-derived extract as a promising candidate for further development in anticancer therapeutics and anti-skin-aging applications.
