Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nephgard is a branded generic combination pharmaceutical product developed and marketed by Zaiva Lifesciences, primarily indicated for the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The formulation typically consists of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and taurine. N-acetylcysteine serves as a precursor to glutathione, a critical endogenous antioxidant, which helps to neutralize reactive oxygen species and reduce oxidative stress-induced damage in renal tissues. Taurine, a sulfur-containing amino acid, acts as an organic osmolyte and antioxidant, providing cytoprotective effects to renal tubular cells. Together, these components are intended to slow the progression of kidney dysfunction and mitigate the complications associated with chronic renal failure.
