Overview

APL-1401 (nepicastat) is an oral small molecule drug developed for the treatment of moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis. It acts as a dopamine β-hydroxylase (DBH) inhibitor, representing a novel mechanism of action in this indication. By inhibiting DBH, APL-1401 modulates catecholamine biosynthesis and immune responses, which may help reduce inflammation associated with ulcerative colitis. The drug is being developed and manufactured by Asieris Pharmaceuticals and has completed Phase 1 clinical trials in the United States and China for ulcerative colitis.
