nepinalone

Nepinalone is a non-opioid antitussive agent that was historically used for the symptomatic treatment of cough. Although it was used clinically for years without a well-defined molecular target, chemoinformatics research published in 2012 identified nepinalone as a potent ligand for sigma receptors, specifically the sigma-1 and sigma-2 receptors. These receptors are known to play a role in the modulation of the cough reflex. The drug was primarily developed and marketed in Italy by Recordati under the brand name Placatus. It is currently considered a discontinued product in most major markets.
