Nequinate is a synthetic small molecule antiprotozoan agent from the hydroquinolone family, primarily used as a coccidiostat in veterinary medicine for poultry and rabbits[1][2][3][4]. It is effective against coccidiosis caused by various *Eimeria* species (including *E. tenella*, *E. necatrix*, *E. acervulina*, *E. maxima*, *E. brunetti*, and *E. mivati*)[3][4]. Nequinate acts by inhibiting xanthine oxidoreductase (XOD), disrupting the metabolic processes of protozoan parasites and interfering with their growth and reproduction[5][6][7]. This mechanism helps control outbreaks of coccidiosis in animals. Nequinate is not approved for human use; it is restricted to veterinary applications as an aid in preventing coccidiosis in poultry and rabbits[2][3][4]. Its unique hydroquinolone structure differentiates it from other anticoccidials[6].
