nerispirdine

Nerispirdine is a small molecule investigational drug developed as an enhancer of acetylcholine release and a use-dependent blocker of potassium (K+) and sodium (Na+) channels. It is structurally related to 4-aminopyridine. Nerispirdine acts by inhibiting axonal K+ channels (notably Kv1.1 and Kv1.2) and voltage-gated Na+ channels, which may enhance neuronal conduction without proconvulsant effects[1][3][8]. It has been studied for its potential neuroprotective and nootropic properties, particularly in neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, neuritis, optic nerve disorders, spinal cord injuries, and cognitive impairment[2][3][5]. The drug was originally developed by Sanofi-Aventis.
