Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nermont (memantine hydrochloride) is an orally administered, uncompetitive, moderate-affinity N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist developed and marketed by Grand Medical Group. It is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe Alzheimer's disease. By binding to and blocking NMDA receptor-operated cation channels, Nermont modulates the effects of pathologically elevated tonic levels of glutamate, which can otherwise lead to excitotoxicity and neuronal dysfunction. This mechanism helps preserve transient physiological activation of the channels by synaptically released glutamate, thereby improving cognitive function, memory, and daily functioning in patients with neurodegenerative dementia.
