NerveLight (800-rhNGF) is an intraoperative fluorescence imaging agent developed by Manzanita Pharmaceuticals for the real-time visualization of peripheral nerves during oncologic surgeries. It consists of recombinant human Nerve Growth Factor (rhNGF) conjugated to the near-infrared (NIR) dye Dyomics 800. When applied topically or interstitially to the surgical wound bed, the agent binds specifically to Nerve Growth Factor receptors, primarily Tropomyosin receptor kinase A (TrkA), expressed on neural structures. This allows surgeons to identify and preserve critical nerves, such as the cavernous nerves during radical prostatectomy or axillary nerves during breast cancer surgery, thereby reducing the risk of post-operative complications like impotence, urinary incontinence, or sensory loss. The agent is designed to be compatible with the indocyanine green (ICG) channel of existing surgical imaging systems.
