NestaCell is an allogeneic cell therapy consisting of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) derived from the exfoliated deciduous teeth of healthy pediatric donors. Developed by Cellavita in collaboration with Instituto Butantan, the therapy is primarily investigated for the treatment of Huntington's disease (HD). The hDPSCs are characterized by high expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and Nestin, and low expression of MHC class II molecules, allowing for intravenous administration without the need for immunosuppression. NestaCell is thought to exert therapeutic effects through paracrine mechanisms, providing neurotrophic support and modulating neuroinflammation to mitigate motor and functional decline in neurodegenerative conditions. Clinical trials have demonstrated significant improvements in motor scores and functional capacity in HD patients, supporting its advancement into Phase III development.
