Overview

Netupitant is a small molecule antiemetic drug that acts as a highly selective antagonist of the neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptor. It is primarily used in combination with palonosetron for the prevention of acute and delayed nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy, including highly emetogenic regimens. By blocking NK1 receptors in the central nervous system, netupitant inhibits substance P-mediated emetic signaling pathways. The drug was approved by the FDA in October 2014 and is marketed under the brand name Akynzeo when combined with palonosetron[2][7][9].
