Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NEU-003 is an innovative, preclinical-stage small molecule agonist being developed by NeuDirection (also known as Shenzhan Pharmaceuticals) for the treatment of tinnitus. It is designed as a mimetic of a natural neuropeptide, acting as a full agonist with high affinity and selectivity for an undisclosed G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) in the auditory cortex and auditory pathway. In preclinical animal models of tinnitus (specifically the Gap-Prepulse Inhibition of the Acoustic Startle Reflex, or GPIAS, model in mice), NEU-003 has demonstrated the ability to normalize hyperactive neuronal activity and block tinnitus, showing potential for a permanent cure even after treatment cessation. NEU-003 exhibits drug-like physiochemical properties, including a significantly longer plasma half-life compared to the natural endogenous neuropeptide ligand.
