Overview

Neu-REFIX is a specific, standardized beta-1,3/1,6-glucan exopolysaccharide produced by the *Aureobasidium pullulans* (strain AFO-202) black yeast. Developed by GN Corporation and Nichi Glucan, it is primarily utilized as a dietary supplement and immunomodulatory adjuvant. The compound is being investigated for its potential therapeutic role in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), where it is hypothesized to modulate the immune response, reduce systemic inflammation, and mitigate muscle fibrosis, potentially through the gut-muscle axis. In 2024, Neu-REFIX received Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) and Rare Pediatric Disease Designation (RPDD) from the U.S. FDA for the treatment of DMD, following clinical studies suggesting its safety and potential to improve functional outcomes in pediatric patients.
