Neucardin is a novel genetically engineered biologic drug developed by Zensun for the treatment of mild and moderate chronic heart failure (CHF), including both heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). It is a recombinant fragment of human neuregulin-1 (specifically the beta2a isoform), designed to target cardiac muscle cells. Neucardin binds to the ErbB4 receptor on cardiomyocytes, promoting heterodimerization with ErbB2 and activating downstream MAPK and PI3K signaling pathways. This mechanism leads to improved cardiac contractility and relaxation, repair of myocardial cell structure, reversal of pathological ventricular remodeling, increased survival and differentiation of cardiomyocytes, reduction in death rate and hospital readmission rate, as well as improvement in quality of life for patients with CHF. Unlike traditional heart failure therapies that promote vasodilation or diuresis, Neucardin works directly on myocardial structure and function[1][2][4][5].
