NeuMed is an experimental autologous cell-based therapy designed for the treatment of unresectable pancreatic cancer. The platform utilizes patient-derived neutrophils that are isolated, cultured, and loaded ex vivo with the cytotoxic payload monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE). Neutrophils are employed as a delivery vehicle due to their innate ability to migrate toward inflammatory signals and infiltrate the tumor microenvironment, particularly in desmoplastic tumors like pancreatic cancer. Once at the tumor site, the neutrophils release MMAE, a potent microtubule-disrupting agent that binds to tubulin, inhibiting cell division and inducing apoptosis. This targeted delivery mechanism aims to maximize the local concentration of the cytotoxic agent while minimizing the systemic toxicity typically associated with auristatins.
